Jumbo Gol f Team Takes Ninth Place with 659 Strokes at Bowdoin College Invitational

BRUNSWICK, ME - The Tufts golf team opened the 2013-14 season by placing ninth out of 13 teams at the annual Bowdoin Invitational held at the Bowdoin Golf Club Saturday and Sunday.

On the first day of play Saturday, junior Alex Zorniger (Dayton, OH) tied for ninth individually after shooting a five-over par 77.

However, no Jumbo shot below 80 on Sunday as Tufts finished at 659 strokes for ninth place. Middlebury College won the tournament with 306-299-605 totals.

Zorniger finished the two days with a 162 score, tied for 28th individually. Sophomore Jay Wong (Darien, CT) shot Sunday's best Jumbo round at 80 for a two-day 164 placing 34th.

Sophomore Matt Lesnik's 81 was the second-best total for Tufts on Saturday and he added an 84 on Sunday for a 165 final. Junior John Wawer (Litchfield, CT) carded a pair of 84's to be the fourth Tufts scorer at 168 overall.

Southern Maine's Tom Murray won the individual medal with a one-under par 71 on Saturday and a 77 on Sunday for a 148 total.

The Jumbos play at MIddlebury College's Duke Nelson Invitational next weekend (Sept. 14-15).
