Will Parker won the 100 freestyle in a 1-2-3 Tufts finish

MIDDLETOWN, CT - Drew Berman, Anthony DeBenedetto and Johann Schmidt all recorded a pair of wins as the Tufts men's swimming & diving team earned a 188-106 victory at Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon.
Head coach Adam Hoyt's Jumbos won eight events overall while improving their dual meet record for 2013-14 to 3-2.
After helping Tufts place second in the 200 medley relay to start the meet, DeBenedetto won the 50 backstroke by almost a full second with his time of 25.29 seconds. He would later be the first to touch in the 100 back with a winning margin of 2.2 seconds (54.08) to cap his successful day.
Berman, part of the third-place 200 medley relay team for Tufts, took his first victory in the 50 breaststroke with a finish of 27.60 seconds. He edged Wesleyan's Jacques Bazile at the wall (27.88). He would score his double near the end of the meet with a 54.78 victory in the 100 individual medley. Berman also had a second in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.52).
As usual in the diving well, Jumbo senior Johann Schmidt was at the top of both scoring columns. He won the three-meter event with a 307.50 score and followed that up with a 306.97 total in the one-meter competition.
Freshman William Metcalfe was the first winner for the Jumbos timing 4:13.83 in the 400 individual medley. Teammate Michael Winget was right behind him at 4:14.69 for second place. Will Parker later added a 100 freestyle victory (49.41), with Winget second again (49.60) and Kyle Savidge (49.81) rounding out a 1-2-3 Tufts finish.
The final win of the day came from the 200 freestyle relay foursome of Parker, Austin Wood, Harry Wood and Winget. Their 1:28.63 won over the second-place Jumbo team of Greg Spiropoulos, Jack Thomas, Craig Olynyk and Cam Simko (1:30.98).
Parker had an individual runner-up placing with his 26.26 time behind DeBenedetto in the 50 back. Spiropoulos was also a second-place finisher behind DeBenedetto in the 100 back (56.28). The Jumbos took first through fourth in that event.
Tufts will swim at Division I Boston College tomorrow in a 6 pm meet.
