MIDDLETOWN, CT - Sophomore Kelsey McEvoy won two backstroke events and junior teammate Samantha Sliwinski had a pair of freestyle victories in a 156.5 to 139.5 Tufts women's swimming & diving loss at Wesleyan on Sunday.
Tufts won six events overall, with Sliwinski adding to the first-place 200 freestyle relay effort that closed the meet. She swam the second leg, with Jenny Hu leading off, Sophia Lin third and Kathryn Coniglio as the anchor for a 1:39.96 time.
McEvoy led a 1-2-3 Tufts finish in the 50 backstroke. Her winning touch of 29.68 seconds was just 0.15 faster than senior teammate Andrea Coniglio (29.83). Senior Emma Van Lieshout was third in the race, touching in 30.20 seconds.
Sliwinski's time of 24.70 seconds won the 50 freestyle, with Lin behind her in second place at 25.76 seconds. Sliwinski was the first to double, swimming a 53.99 in the 100 freestyle. Hu was the runner-up with a 55.66 time.
McEvoy won her second event in the 100 backstroke, recording a 1:03.37 winning time. She also had a Tufts teammate score second-place points as Andrea Coniglio posted a 1:04.06 time.
First-year diver Kylie Reiman added a three-meter victory with a 229.57 total score.
Sophomore Sarah Mahoney recorded a pair of runner-up freestyle swims. She touched in 2:00.07 in the 200 and 5:21.68 in the 500. Van Lieshout added a second in the 100 individual medley (1:04.31).
Tufts swims at Wheaton College next Saturday in the final dual meet of the season.
