NORTON - Tufts University took first place in 11 of 15 events to swim past Wheaton College by a score of 190-100 at the Clark Athletic Center in Norton, Massachusetts today.
The Jumbos opened the meet by taking the first two spots in the 400 yard medley relay and never looked back. The quartet of seniors Andrea Coniglio and Jenny Hu, first year Cassidy Hubert and junior Samantha Sliwinski won the event by 3.36 seconds finishing in 4:07.35.
In addition to her relay performance Sliwinski placed first in the 50 free in a time of 24.93, and also captured the 100 free in 54.02. Hu took her second first place finish of the day with a 31.09 to lead the field in the 50 yard breaststroke.
Distance freestyler Sarah Mahoney took firsts in the 1000 and 500 yard races. Mahoney, a sophomore, covered the longer distance in 10:58.97, and paced the 500 in 5:25.35. Kathryn Coniglio had a strong meet with a first place in the 200 free and capturing third in the 100 freestyle.
Other winners for the Jumbos were sophomores Maddie Golison in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:18.34, and Kelsey McEvoy with a 2:16.24 in the 200 yard backstroke. Senior Sami Bloom took both the 1 and the 3 meter diving events.
Tufts will next be in action Friday at the Middlebury Invitational.
