BREWSTER - The Tufts Golf team finished tied for ninth among Division III teams and tied for 21st overall at the 80th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship contested on Sunday and Monday.
The tournament featured Division I, II and III teams in New England playing on the Port Course 1 and Starboard Course 2 at The Captains Course on Cape Cod. A total of 37 teams were in action. Par was 72.
Tufts as a team shot nine strokes better on Monday than they did on Sunday. As a result, they jumped from 15th place among DIII teams after one day to ninth. Their scoring line was 329-320-649.
The Jumbos were led by sophomore Owen Elliott and freshman Taylor Nordan, who recorded identical 81-77-158 scores to tie for 20th among Division III teams. Senior captain Alex Zorniger (83-81-164) and freshman Glenn VanWinkle (84-85-169) also scored on both days for Tufts.
Rhode Island College won the Division III team title with a 615 total score. Division I Fairfield University was the overall champion with a 601 score. Bentley University's Malcolm Oliver was the individual medalist with a one-under part 143 total, including a two-under 70 on Sunday.
