BOSTON – The Tufts women's squash team took on Northeastern for the second time this season on Tuesday night and the Jumbos once again beat the Huskies convincingly. Wins in the second through ninth positions gave the women the 8-1 win.
Junior Ann Bellinger (Arlington, VA) played in the number two position and after dropping the first game was able to come back for the four game win, 5-11, 11-5, 11-8, 12-10. The match in the third position also took four games, as freshman Anna Bezahler (Philadelphia, PA) beat her Northeastern counterpart, 11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 11-2.
Having no problem in the number four position, rookie Lynn Cheng (Singapore) cruised to a three game win over the Huskie's Seohyun Joo, 11-4, 11-2, 11-3. Similarly, senior Caroline Howe (Carlisle, MA) worked quickly in the number five spot, topping Lucia Ryll, 11-0, 11-3, 11-5. In the number six slot, first-year Rowan Rice (Rye, NY) was able to handle her Huskie opponent in three games, winning, 11-3, 11-7, 11-8.
Junior Charlotte Griffiths (Ardmore, PA) allowed her opponent to score just five points across three games in her win in the number seven position, 11-0, 11-3, 11-2. In the number eight spot, sophomore Sophie Laing (Red Hook, NY) was nearly as dominant, winning in three games, 11-6, 11-5, 11-1. Junior Rachael Jackson (Woodinville, WA) wrapped up the wins for the Jumbos in the number nine slot, winning, 11-2, 11-1, 11-5.
Junior Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) played in the first position for the Jumbos for the first time this year. The match went to five games, but Dahlman was edged, 10-12, 11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6.
The Jumbos move to 10-10 on the season with the win, and will next be in action this weekend when they travel to Brunswick, Maine to compete in the DIII Individual Championships. Play begins on Friday, February 7 and will conclude on Sunday.
