Junior Paige Dahlman has advanced to the finals at the DIII Individual Championships
|
BRUNSWICK, ME – Three Jumbos from the women's squash team participated in the second annual Division III Individual Championship tournament at Bowdoin College this week. Junior Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) has played her way into the finals of the B draw of the tournament and is one win away from winning the entire draw.
Dahlman opened up play on Friday by topping Samantha Rosado of Mount Holyoke in the round of 16 on Friday night. On Saturday she beat Conn. College's Leah Puklin in the quarter finals, her third win over Puklin this season. She then downed Elizabeth Brehman of Colby in the semifinals to advance to the finals. Dahlman will play the winner of the match between Chloe Polikoff of Bowdoin and Evelyn Kramer of Amherst on Sunday at 11:15 am for the B draw title.
Junior Ann Bellinger (Arlington, VA) also played in the B draw but was topped by Tara Tischio of Colby in the opening round. In A draw action, which had 32 participants, sophomore Paget Stanco (Rye, NY) fell in the opening round to Williams' Caroline Sawin.
This is the second year the tournament has been scheduled but the first year it has actually been held. Last year's tournament was cancelled due to a blizzard. Individuals from 14 schools are participating in the tournament including: Amherst, Bates, Bowdoin, Colby, Conn. College, Denison, Hamilton, Middlebury, MIT, Mount Holyoke, Tufts, Wellesley, Wesleyan and Williams.
Dahlman is the lone Jumbo still alive on the women's side of play, and should she win on Sunday she will be the champion of the B draw. The entire Jumbo team will be back in action on February 21 when they play in the College Squash Association's Team Championships in Princeton, NJ.
