Jumbo Women's Lax Explodes for 18-3 Non-League Victory at Eastern Connecticut

MANSFIELD, CT - Gabby Horner and Caroline Ross both scored four goals and Brigid Bowser finished with three goals and three assists as the Tufts women's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-3 win in non-conference action at Eastern Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.

Ten Jumbos scored points overall including two goals and two assists by Kali DiGate, a goal with two assists from Lindsey Walker and two goals by Kelley Cohen. Tufts improved to 2-1 with the victory.

Eastern Connecticut goalie Taylor Emmerson made 13 saves in the loss for the Warriors (0-3).

Bowser scored three of the first give goals for Tufts, then Ross netted back-to-back tallies before Eliza Halmo scored giving Tufts an 8-0 lead in the game. They had a 10-1 advantage at halftime after Ross scored twice more before the break. Shots were 24-2 Jumbos in the first 30 minutes.

Horner scored the first two goals of the second half to push Tufts' lead to 12-1. Erin Conn netted her third goal of the season for the Warriors on a free-position shot making it 12-2 with 20 minutes remaining in regulation.

Tufts ran off the next six goals to establish an 18-2 margin. First-year Caroline Kingsley had her first career goal during that run and Cohen scored twice. ECSU's Ashley Wolk finished the scoring with 25 seconds remaining.

The Jumbos finished with a 39-5 advantage in shots and won the ground balls battle 29-10. They also took 14 of 23 draw controls in a dominating performance.

Junior Emily Wright continued a strong start to the season with five draw controls, three ground balls and a caused turnover. Bowser added six draw controls to her six offensive points in the game. Cohen had three ground balls and two draw controls along with two scores. Rachel Gallimore and Emily Morton split halves in the Tufts goal, with only Gallimore needing to make one save.

Karen Trescott led Eastern with three ground balls. Conn and Paige Schneider both won three draws for the hosts. Devyne Doran caused two turnovers.

Tufts returns home to face fourth-ranked Cortland on Wednesday at 4 pm. Eastern Connecticut is next in action on Tuesday at MIT for a 6 pm start.
