Sophomore Brendan Koh was the medalist at RIC's Spring Invitational

WARWICK, RI - Sophomore Brendan Koh of the Tufts golf team was first out of 83 golfers to earn medalist honors at the Rhode Island College Spring Invitational played at the par-72 Valley Country Club Friday and Saturday.
Koh shot a 75 on Saturday paired with Friday's 79 for a two-day 154 (+10) to win the tournament. Freshman teammate Owen Elliott was one stroke behind at 155 (79-76) to tie for second place with Rhode Island College's Jonathan Cooper (81-74-155).
Behind those two strong performances, Tufts placed fifth out of 17 teams at the tournament. They were 10 strokes better on Saturday with a 324 four-best, compared to the 334 that had them in sixth place after Friday's first round. Their tournament total was 658.
Rhode Island College won their own tournament at 320-312-632.
Koh fired a 35 on the back nine Saturday to take the medalist honors after shooting 40 on the front nine. Elliott was consistently good on Saturday at 38-38-76.
Also scoring for the Jumbos over the weekend were senior David Carson, freshman Ben Ruskin and sophomore Jay Wong. Ruskin was among the Tufts top four on both days and finished at 88-87-175 (+31). Wong's 88 scored for Tufts on Friday and he finished at 89 today for a two-round 177 (+33). Carson's 86 was third-best for Tufts today to go with an 89 on Friday for a 175 total.
The Jumbos play at the Hampton Inn Invitational hosted by UMass Dartmouth next weekend.
