Golfers Finish in the Back of the Pack at Duke Nelson Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Tufts golf team placed 23rd at the 31st annual Duke Nelson Tournament held at the par-71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course on the Middlebury College campus on Saturday and Sunday.

The Jumbos totaled 338 strokes on Saturday and 334 on Sunday for a 672 final score. They were four behind an Elms College team which scored 668 for the two rounds. Sophomore Owen Elliot was Tufts' best scorer for the weekend at 82-84-166. Senior captain Alex Zorniger had the best round with an 80 on Sunday.

Trailing by four strokes after 18 holes, Rensselaer shaved 14 shots off their day one score to capture the tournament. The Engineers shot a 296 on day two, finishing with a two-day total of 605. James Jackson led the squad, earning medalist honors with a 146 (74-72).

Trinity had the best second round, taking 26 strokes off their day one total with a 291 on Sunday, the best of any squad. The Bantams finished in second overall with a 608, followed by Rochester (615) and Middlebury (316).

The host school led after one day, but fell to fourth place after adding 11 strokes to their day one total. Fitz Bowen led the Panthers with a sixth place tie by shooting a 151 (76-75).

The Jumbos play at Williams College next weekend.
