CLINTON, NY - The Tufts Golf team finds itself 10 strokes out of fourth place after one day at the NESCAC Championship Qualifier played at the Skenandoa Golf Club today.
The top four teams will advance to the conference championship in the spring, to be hosted by this weekend's winner. After Saturday's opening round, Middlebury is first (297), host Hamilton is second (301), Trinity is third (302), Williams is fourth (305) and Tufts is fifth (315). Amherst is a distant sixth with a 323 score.
The Jumbos were led by senior captain Alex Zorniger and sophomore Owen Elliot, who both shot six-over par 78. Junior Brendan Koh also played a solid round of 79. Freshman Taylor Nordan was the fourth Tufts scorer coming in with a round of 80.
Tufts is attemping to be one of the four teams to advance in conference play for the first time in team history since the conference initiated the Qualifier in 2008.
Tomorrow's second and final round starts at 10:30 am.
