BRUNSWICK, ME - The Tufts Golf team opened its 2014-15 season this weekend at the annual Bowdoin Invitational placing eighty out of 12 teams at the two-day tournament.
The tournament was played at Brunswick Golf Club over
6,601 yards with par of 72.
Tufts' four-best scores totaled 331 strokes on Saturday and 329 on Sunday for a 660 total. The Jumbos were one stroke ahead of the host Polar Bears (661) and seven behind seventh-place Southern Maine (653). Middlebury won the Invitational at 302-299-601.
On Saturday, Alex Zorniger led the Jumbos with an 80. Newcomers Aaron Corn and Glenn VanWinkle scored second and third for Tufts at 82 and 83, respectively. Owen Elliot was the fourth Tufts fiinisher at 86.
Zorniger again paced Tufts on Sunday shooting 81. Corn and Elliot both finished their second rounds with 82. VanWinkle was the fourth Jumbo scorer coming in at 84.
Zorniger's 161 total tied for 32nd individually.
Providence's Jamie Ferullo shot a 71 on Sunday for a two-day 144 that took individual medalist honors.
