MEDFORD – The women's swimming and diving team closed out their first home weekend with a win over NESCAC rival Wesleyan at the Hamilton Pool on Sunday afternoon. Eight different Jumbos won events to help take home the 176-115 win over the visiting Cardinals.
First-year Kelsey Gallagher won the 100 yard backstroke and the 200 yard backstroke and sophomore Amanda Gottschalk won the 200 yard breaststoke and the 200 IM to help the Jumbos earn the win.
Gallagher touched the wall in 1:03.98 in the 100 yard backstroke, just before classmates and teammates Ali Dorneo (1:04.13) and Anna Kimura (1:04.84). Gallagher also won the 200 yard backstroke, finishing in 2:16.25, once again in front of Dorneo (2:18.56).
Gottschalk also helped the Jumbos by winning two events. Her time of 2:30.28 was almost three seconds ahead of second place finisher and Jumbo rookie Megan Casey in the 200 yard breaststroke. Gottschalk also won the 200 yard IM, touching the wall in 2:15.26 and finishing less than a second before Kimura who swam a 2:15.35.
Kimura won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.27 to add to her second place finish in the 200 yard IM and her third place mark in the 100 yard backstroke. Senior Kathryn Coniglio won the 100 yard freestyle in 54.99, and took home second in the 200 yard freestyle (1:59.23). Junior Maddie Golison finished first in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:19.08, and second in the 100 yard butterfly, swimming a 1:04.40.
Junior Sarah Mahoney won by a considerable margin in the 1000 yard freestyle, finishing in 11:07.20. Sophomore Sophia Lin had a much closer race in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 26.01, just a hundredth of a second before Wesleyan's Serena Zalkowtiz (26.02).
Sophomore diver Kylie Reiman won on the three-meter board with a score of 214.42 and took second place off the one-meter board 200.78. Wesleyan's Carly Feinman was just over four points ahead of Reiman on the one-meter board with a score of 204.60.
The women have little time to rest as they will host Wellesley on Wednesday night in their last home meet of the season.
