NEW LONDON, Conn. - Michela North poured in 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the fourth-ranked Tufts University women's basketball team to a convincing 69-48 victory at Connecticut College Friday night.

Freshman Melissa Baptista recorded 14 points, 4 blocks, and 4 boards off the bench.

North was 8-for-15 from the field. She added four blocks and two steals in the win.

The Jumbos improve their record to 17-1 with a 5-0 mark in the NESCAC while the Camels slip to 13-5 with a 3-2 record in conference play.

Senior Hayley Kanner chipped in with 14 points, three blocks and two steals. Rookie forward Melissa Baptista added 14 points and four rebounds for the winning side.

Connecticut College rookie forward Mairead Hynes scored a game-high 18 points while grabbing eight rebounds for the hosts. Liz Malman finished with 11 points and five rebounds for the Camels. Junior Jenna Lovett scored seven points and grabbed four rebounds in the setback.

Malman buried a three-pointer from the left side of the arch to put the Camels on top 26-25 with 3:58 remaining in the opening half. But the Jumbos responded with a 6-0 run of their own that was capped off by a Michelle Wu triple with 1:49 remaining. Baptista closed out the half with a hoop in the paint and the visitors carried a 37-30 advantage into the break.

Early on in the second stanza, North extended the visitors' advantage when she put back an offensive board with 17:56 to go that catapulted the Jumbos out to a 41-32 advantage.  Tufts extended the lead to 12, but the Camels battled back. With 8:24 to go, Lovett put together a nice dribble and drive for a deuce that made it a 52-44 contest.

However, the Camels could not get any closer and with 7:41 to play, Lauren Dillon dialed long distance from the top of the arch to help the Jumbos extend their advantage to 59-46.  The visitors continued to pull away for the 69-48 win.

Connecticut College senior Carlee Smith dished out three assists Friday night to move into fourth place on the program's all-time leader list with 336 career helpers.

The Camels will be hosting Bates College in New London tomorrow afternoon, while the Jumbos will visit Wesleyan University for a 3:00 pm game in Middletown.
