MIDDLEBURY, VT - A third-place finish by the 800 freestyle relay topped the Tufts women's swimming & diving team's performance at the Middlebury Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The foursome of junior Sarah Mahoney, senior tri-captain Amanda Wachenfeld, first-year Jess Lee and senior tri-captain Kathryn Coniglio posted an 8:21.05 time for third at the competitive meet.
Teams from Middlebury, Springfield, Tufts, Vermont and Williams were in action at the non-scoring competition.
First-year Meghan Casey had the top individual finish for the Jumbos with a fourth-place touch in the 200 breaststroke. Her time came in at 2:32.05. She also placed seventh in the 100 breast with a 1:11.76 touch.
The Jumbos had another good relay showing with the 400 freestyle team late in the meet. The group of sophomore Sophia Lin, senior tri-captain Scarlett Hao, Lee and Casey put together a 3:47.29 for fifth place.
Junior Kelsey McEvoy, recently returned from a semester abroad, had the top swims in a few events for Tufts. Her sixth-place showings in the 100 freestyle in 56.11 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:01.37 were the best. Sophomore Amanda Danielson also logged a sixth-place time of 2:20.39 in the 200 butterfly.
Head coach Nancy Bigelow's Jumbos will now spend the next few weeks preparing for the NESCAC Championship meet coming up at Wesleyan February 13-15.
