Golf Tied for 14th After One Day at New England Championship

Owne Elliott shot 76 to lead Tufts on Sunday

BREWSTER - The Tufts Golf team is tied for 14th among 22 New England Division III teams after one day of play at the 81st Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship.

The Jumbos' four best scores totaled to 324, just four strokes out of the top 10. Tenth-place Salem accumulated 320 strokes. Babson College leads after one round with a combined score of 305. Tufts is tied with University of New England, both two strokes up on 16th place Suffolk.

The tournament is being played at the par-72 Captains Course on Cape Cod.

Junior Owen Elliott led Tufts on Sunday with a four-over par 76, which is tied for 12th individually. He is six strokes back of leader Zachary Temple from Castleton, who shot a two-under par 70.

Sophomore Taylor Nordan scored second for the Jumbos with an 80. Both senior Brendan Koh and sophomore Glenn Van Winkle carded 84's to make the Tufts top four. Sophomore Jumbo Aaron Corn made 87 in the opening round.

The second round of play begins at 8:30 am tomorrow.
