WILLIAMSTOWN - The Tufts Golf team placed sixth out of 10 teams at the two-day NESCAC Qualifier hosted by Williams College at par-71 Taconic Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday.
The top four teams at the Qualifier advance to the NESCAC Championship next spring. Tufts' total of 647 was 17 strokes behind fifth-place Williams College (630). Middlebury (605) won the Qualifier, followed by Trinity (617), Hamilton (628) and Amherst (628). Those four will meet at Middlebury for the conference championship in 2016.
The Jumbos were three strokes better on Sunday with a 322 best-four total, compared to their 325 on Saturday. They were led on both days by junior Owen Elliott, who shot five-over par 76 on Sunday after a 78 on Saturday. His 154 total was ninth individually out of 50 golfers.
Sophomore Taylor Nordan scored on both days for Tufts. He had a 79 on Sunday and an 81 on Saturday that put him in the top 20 overall with a 160 final. Senior co-captain Brendan Koh was also one of Tufts' four-best on both days, shooting 84 on Sunday and 86 on Saturday (170 total).
Senior co-captain Jay Wong scored 80 on Saturday, which was second for the team as Tufts was also sixth after the first round. He finished at 168 for the two days. Freshman Aaron Corn improved to an 83 on Sunday to score for Tufts and had a total of 172 strokes.
The Jumbos will conclude their fall season at the annual New England Championship on Cape Cod at the end of the month.
