CAMBRIDGE - Freshman Colleen Doolan of the Tufts Women's Swimming & Diving team was two-tenths of a second off the NCAA B qualifier in the 200 butterfly event on Saturday at the MIT Invitational.
Doolan's 2:07.80 time in the finals was 0.22 off the 2:07.58 B cut. Fifth at the MIT meet, Doolan improved upon her 2:08.44 that won the Middlebury Invitational on November 21. She's already the second fastest woman in Tufts history in the event, behind only Christine Garvey.
Junior Amanda Gottschalk had a ninth-place swim out of 32 entrants overall in the in the 400 individual medley final with a time of 4:42.69. She was even faster in the morning with a 4:40.41 in the prelims. Sophomore Anna Kimura swam 1:07.78 in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries, less than four-tenths of a second off her career best (1:07.41). She came in at 1:07.95 for the final to place 16th.
In three-meter diving, junior Kylie Reiman's 351.60 score placed fourth at the meet, Tufts' best finish through two days.
Saturday's opening event, the 200 freestyle relay, had Jumbos Sophia Lin, Larisa Kokubo, Doolan and sophomore Jess Lee finishing 15th with a 1:41.49 touch. At the end of the night, that same foursome timed 4:05.32 for 17th in the 400 medley relay.
Lin had Tufts' fastest 50 free on Saturday with a time of 25.24 seconds. Freshman Christiana Hug recorded a 2:02.43 in the 200 freestyle preliminaries.
The MIT Invitational concludes on Sunday. In addition to the host Engineers, the Jumbos are competing with Columbia, NYU, Wellesley, SUNY New Paltz, LIU Brooklyn, Wheaton and Keene State.
