SPRINGFIELD - After winning the three-meter title at the 2015 NCAA Regional Diving Championships Friday night at Springfield College, Tufts sophomore Matt Rohrer placed third in the one-meter Regional on Saturday afternoon.
By virtue of winning the regional three-meter title and completing his one-meter program, Rohrer automatically qualifies for the 2015 NCAA Championships in Texas March 18-21.
On Saturay at the zone regional, he scored 509.35 (11 dives) in a one-meter field of 20 divers. Only NYU's Austen Blease (533.30) and Springfield's Jack Lewis (532.45) were ahead of him.
On Friday night, Rohrer compiled an 11-dive score of 585.20 to defeat a field of 20 others from New England and the Northeast. He edged Lewis (579.05) by a little more than six points to win.
Last weekend, Rohrer was Diver of the Meet at the NESCAC Championships. He won the one-meter title and finishing second in the three-meter event.
At the Zone Regionals last season, hosted by RPI, Rohrer also placed third in three-meter (546.95) and fifth in one-meter (507.30). Those finishes earned him a spot in the NCAA field.
Rohrer was 10th off both boards at the 2014 NCAA meet in Indianapolis,. He was also the NESCAC three-meter champion last March.
