WARWICK, RI - Junior Jay Wong shot three-over par 75 on the first day of the Rhode Island College Invitational helping Tufts Golf place third out of six teams. The competition continues with another round on Saturday.
The Jumbos' four best scores totaled to 310 strokes. That sits 10 behind leader Williams College (300) and five back from host and second-place Rhode Island College (305). Fourth place Western New England scored 312.
Wong shot 37 going out and 38 coming in for his 75 which is tied for eighth individually out of 42 golfters. A pair of Jumbos are tied for 14th as sophomore Owen Elliott and freshman Taylor Nordan both shot 77. Elliott went 37-40 and Nordan was 38-39. Senior captain Alex Zorniger was the fourth Jumbo scorer at 39-42-81.
The tournament is being played at the par 72, 6,458-yard Valley Country Club. The second round starts at 10 am tomorrow.
