Owen Elliott leads Tufts after one day at the Williams Invitational |
WILLIAMSTOWN - Junior Owen Elliott sits tied for sixth individually after one round to lead the Tufts Golf team in its season-opening tournament at Williams College.
Elliott shot three-over par 74 on Saturday at Taconic Golf Club (par 71). That led Tufts to a 309 four-man total which is tied for ninth among 20 teams with the host Ephs and Amherst College. Rhode Island College leads with a 298 total. Play continues on Sunday at 9 am.
Play began Saturday at 1:00 pm and followed a shotgun start format. The conditions were difficult due to heavy rain in the latter half of the day. Forecasts for Sunday are again calling for less than ideal conditions.
Sophomore Aaron Corn scored second for the Jumbos and tied for 31st overall with a +6 77. Senior co-captain Brendan Koh and sophomore Shane Visram also shot under 80 with 79's to score for Tufts.
Salem State's Tony Conigliari finished with an even par 71 to lead the field heading into Sunday. The Vikings are two shots back of Rhode Island College. Trinity College is third. Eleven teams within eleven shots of each other, including the Jumbos.
