MEDFORD - The Tufts University Golf team shot four strokes better on Sunday as a team than on Saturday, but wasn't able to move up in the team standings as the Jumbos placed 12th out of 25 at the 32nd annual Duke Nelson Invitational hosted by Middlebury College.
Junior Owen Elliott shot a pair of 75's on the par-71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course to lead Tufts and tie for fourth individually with a +8 150 total.
Tufts' four-best scores on Sunday equaled 315 strokes while they came in at 319 on Saturday. Their 634 total was one behind 11th place Manhattanville (633) and six ahead of 13th place Johnson & Wales (640).
Sophomore Glenn VanWinkle scored for Tufts on both days. His Sunday 78 was second for the team and he finished at 158 overall including Saturday's 80. Senior co-captain Jay Wong also scored on both days for the Jumbos, shooting 81 on Sunday after an 86 on Saturday which gave him a 167 total.
Sophomore Aaron Corn, whose 78 on Saturday was second for Tufts, shot a two-day 164. Senior co-captain Brendan Koh was one of the Tufts four on Sunday with an 81 and finished with a 171 total.
Next up for the Jumbos is a mid-week tournament, the Newbury College Nighthawk Invitational, in Boston on Wednesday.
