CAMBRIDGE - Freshman Colleen Doolan won the 200 butterfly and junior diver Kylie Reiman hit the NCAA qualifying mark in the three-meter event as the Tufts Women's Swimming & Diving team opened its second semester of action on Saturday at MIT with Wellesley.
Doolan swam 2:08.21 in the 200 fly and won convincingly by 3.78 seconds. She was also the top Tufts finisher in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.37 seconds, and in the 100 butterfly as well (1:00.46). She was third and fifth, respectively, at the meet in those events.
Reiman's three-meter score of 283.45 surpassed the 265 NCAA requirement. She is now eligible to compete at the NCAA Zone Championships at Wellesley College on February 26.
Though the Jumbos lost to both #7 MIT (192-108) and to #33 Wellesley (163.5-136.5), they added some strong swims to Doolan's victory. They opened with a 1:51.79 in the 200 medley relay by freshman Caroline McCormick, junior Sarah Elghor, sophomore Jess Lee and junior Sophia Lin.
Sophomore Anna Kimura touched in 2:26.30 for the 200 breaststroke, where the Jumbos had three in the top five at the meet. Kimura was second followed by junior Amanda Gottschalk in third with a 2:28.71 touch. Gottschalk would later add a 2:13.45 for third in the 200 individual medley, while Kimura's 1:09.46 in the 100 breaststroke gave her another runner-up finish.
The 200 freestyle relay group of Lee, Doolan, freshman Alexandra Good and Lin put together a 1:42.44 in the 200 freestyle relay to finish the meet. They were third.
Tufts has its lone home meet of the season next Saturday versus Wheaton. It will be Seniors Day at Hamilton Pool.
