MEDFORD - The Tufts Women's Swimming & Diving team won 19 of 20 events today on Seniors Day at Hamilton Pool against Wheaton College.
In the middle of the meet, the nine members of the 2016 senior class were honored - Shivani Bigler, Maddie Golison, Randi Katz, Moira Lavelle, Molly Levene, Sarah Mahoney, Claire Mullany, Katharine Pong and Samantha Swinton.
Mahoney celebrated Senior Day by earning two individual wins and a relay first. Her 2:00.81 took first in the 200 freestyle. She added a 5:27.01 time which was fastest in the 500 free. Also swimming the second leg of the 200 freestyle relay which won with a 1:43.15 time in the final event of the day, Mahoney was joined by sophomore Jess Lee, freshman Alexandra Good and junior Sophia Lin.
Freshman Colleen Doolan led the Jumbos overall with three solo victories and a relay first. She was first to the wall in the 200 butterfly (2:09.46), the 100 freestyle (55.18) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.10). To start the meet, she was the third leg in the 200 medley relay which posted a 1:51.79 winning time. That matched Tufts' best time of the season thus far.
Freshman Caroline McCormick, also a 200 medley relay participant, enjoyed individual success as well. Her 1:02.64 won the 100 backstroke and she doubled with a 29.73 win in the 50 back. Junior Sarah Elghor added a season-best 31.67 to win the 50 breaststorke in addition to her part in the 200 medley relay. Lin, who won with both relays, also sprinted to a victory in the 50 freestyle at 25.30 seconds.
Junior Amanda Gottschalk and sophomore Anna Kimura also won twice at Hamilton Pool. Kimura swam a 1:09 flat for first in the 100 breaststroke. Gottschalk earned her first win in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:26.78 time. The pair then won back-to-back late in the meet, with Gottschalk's 4:42.67 touch in the 400 individual medley and Kimura's 1:03.56 in the 100 individual medley.
Junior diver Kylie Reiman scored a season-best 263.10 in the one-meter diving event. She later earned a 264.36 score in three-meter, winning both events.
Freshman Jen Lucius in the 1,000 meters (11:14.85), junior Cassidy Hubert in the 50 butterfly (28.08) and sophomore Kelsey Gallagher in the 200 backstroke (2:16.46) all won once for the Jumbos.
Tufts led comfortably enough to swim exhibitions in the final five events. They finished with a 194-149 win over the Lyons.
The Jumbos compete at the Middlebury College Invitational next Friday and Saturay (Jan. 29-30) before the championship season starts.
