Women's Swimming & Diving Collects Two Victories at Wesleyan on Saturday

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team posted a pair of victories on Saturday afternoon at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, as the Jumbos defeated WPI (221-100) and Wesleyan (190-126). The Jumbos fell short in their matchup against Williams, as the Ephs prevailed, 220-98.

Hannah Truslow posted a runner-up finish in the 500-yard freestyle.

The Jumbos' "A" unit finished second overall in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:40.90), as the team featured freshman Grace Goetcheus, sophomore Colleen Doolan, freshman Hannah Truslow and senior captain Sophia Lin

"Coming off of a tough week academically and a heavy week of training, I was pleased with how the team performed," said head coach Adam Hoyt. "Having the opportunity to compete against some of the best swimmers and divers in the conference is a great way to wrap up our semester of competition. I believe each of our athletes has identified a few things to improve upon over the coming month, and we will look forward to a good stretch of training over the next month and look forward to putting ourselves in a great position to race and dive well the back half of the season."

Freshman Olivia Leoni, sophomore Alexandra Good, freshman Brooke Bernstein and sophomore Sydney Nasson formed the squad's "B" team in the 400 freestyle relay, as the group earned a seventh-place finish with a time of 3:46.10.

Senior captain Amanda Gottschalk performed superbly on the individual side, as she placed first overall in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.49), second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.31) and fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke (31.64). Doolan was also one of the team's top-performers in Connecticut, as the Northbrook, Illinois, native tallied a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.81) and a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (59.66).

The Jumbos have received tremendous performances from a number of first-year swimmers, as Truslow is right at the top of that list. The New Smyrna Beach, Florida, native compiled a runner-up performance in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.64), while also being the Jumbos' top-finisher in the 200 freestyle (fourth overall, 1:59.32).

The Beijing, China, native was the team's top-performer in both events, while also boasting an eighth-place finish in the 50 butterfly (27.83).

Senior Kylie Reiman finished second and third overall, respectively, in the 3-meter diving event (230.85) and the 1-meter diving event (211.40), while junior Kelsey Gallagher placed sixth overall in the 100-yard backstroke en route to being the team's top-performer in the event.
