CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team totaled 113 points in opening-day action at the MIT Invitational on Friday in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as the team currently sits in fourth place out of six teams.

The Jumbos trail third-place Wheaton College by 31 points and lead fifth-place Keene State by 40 points. New York University sits atop the standings with 230 points, while MIT is in the second slot with 207 points.
The Jumbos received some strong performances in first event of the tournament, which was the 800-yard freestyle relay. The Jumbos' "A" unit, consisting of freshman Olivia Leoni, sophomore Colleen Doolan, sophomore Sydney Nasson and freshman Hannah Truslow, finished fifth overall in the opening event with a time of 7:56.45.
Freshman Grace Goetcheus, sophomore Alexandra Good, freshman Mackenzie Parmenter and senior captain Amanda Gottschalk formed the team's "B" unit in the 800-yard freestyle relay, as the girls earned a sixth-place finish with a time of 7:57.12. The Jumbos' "A" and "B" teams combined for 70 team points in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The Jumbos' "C" unit, featuring sophomore Maddie Maider, junior Zoe Gregorace, freshman Claire Kerns and senior captain Sophia Lin posted a time of 8:22.10 in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Sophomore Ailish Dougherty competed for the Jumbos in the 1650-yard freestyle, as she finished ninth overall with a mark of 18:56.38. The Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, native's strong performance was rewarded, as she earned 14 points for the Jumbos.
Sophomore Christiana Hug posted a time of 19:28.84 in the 1650-yard freestyle, while finishing 13th overall. The Simsbury, Connecticut, native cleared the 14th-place finisher by over six seconds, while earning nine team points.
Senior Kylie Reiman tallied a ninth-place finish in the 1-meter diving event, as she posted a mark of 215.35, which was good for 14 team points. Freshman Taissa Gladkova collected six points for the Jumbos in the 1-meter diving event, as she placed 15th overall with a mark of 162.40.
The Jumbos will compete in second-day action Saturday at the MIT Invitational, and the tournament will conclude on Sunday in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
