CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman standout Grace Goetcheus of the Tufts University women's swimming & diving team set a program record in the preliminaries of the 200-yard backstroke, and then broke her own record in the finals of the 200 backstroke during final-day action at the MIT Invitational on Sunday in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as the Jumbos finished the three-day tournament in third place out of six teams.

The Jumbos (762 points) held a 162-point lead over fourth-place Wheaton College. New York University garnered first-place honors in the meet, as it totaled 1,664 points. MIT posted a runner-up finish, by earning 1,572 points.
The Jumbos were led during the tournament, by Goetcheus, senior captain Amanda Gottschalk, sophomore Sydney Nasson, senior Kylie Reiman, sophomore Colleen Doolan, junior Meghan Casey, senior captain Sophia Lin and sophomore Ailish Dougherty, as each athlete posted at least one top-nine finish in the finals of an individual event during the weekend.
Goetcheus placed third overall in the finals of the 200 backstroke (program record of 2:08.03, 20 points), fifth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.59, 18 points) and eighth in the 100-yard backstroke (59.09, 15 points). Gottschalk, who was named to the All-NESCAC Team last season, posted an impressive performance in the finals of the 200-yard breaststroke, as she finished fifth overall (18 points) with a time of 2:25.97. The Lake Forest, Illinois, native also finished eighth overall in the finals of the 400-yard individual medley (4:41.33, 15 points).
Nasson collected a sixth-place finish in the finals of the 400 IM (4:40.61, 17 points) and a 10th-place finish in the 200 IM (2:15.28, 13 points), while Reiman earned ninth-place finishes in the finals of the 3-meter diving event (210.45, 14 points) and the 1-meter diving event (215.35, 14 points).
Doolan, a member of the 2015-16 All-NESCAC Team, finished eighth overall in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.65, 15 points), while Casey finished ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.97, 14 points). Lin placed ninth in the finals of the 50-yard freestyle (25.08, 14 points) and Dougherty tallied a ninth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle (18:56.38, 14 points).
During third-day action on Sunday, the Jumbos' "A" team, featuring Goetcheus, Gottschalk, sophomore Alexandra Good and Lin, placed fifth overall in the finals of the 200-yard medley relay (1:50.35), as the group collected 36 team points.
Lin, Good, freshman Hannah Truslow and Doolan proved to be an effective unit, as the four girls tallied a seventh-place finish in the finals of the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:38.88), adding 36 points to the Jumbos' total.
Lin was the squad's top-performer in the finals of the 100-yard freestyle on Sunday, as the senior captain finished 13th overall (55.11, eight points). Nasson was the squad's top-finisher in the finals of the 500-yard freestyle (11th overall, 5:18.09), while sophomore Tessa Garces led the charge in the finals of the 100-yard butterfly (16th overall, 1:00.58).
Freshman Mackenzie Parmenter continues to perform admirably, as the Natick, Massachusetts, native placed 13th overall (nine points) in the finals of the 500 freestyle with a mark of 5:25.29. Junior Lindsay Partin touched the wall in a time of 2:18.63 during the finals of the 200 IM, which was good for a 13th-place finish. Truslow was the team's second-place finisher in the finals of the 200 back, by posting a time of 2:10.73 and earning nine points.
The Jumbos will compete at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, with Williams and WPI on Saturday (Dec. 10).
