The Jumbos defeated Averett in Dansville, Va., earlier in the day and then headed to Greensboro for a meeting with the Pride (6-19) under the lights. The win there gave Tufts a 4-2 record on its spring break trip.
The Jumbos established a 4-0 lead through four innings. They scored three in the second highlighted by a two-run double from senior CF Cody McCallum. Sophomore 3B Tommy O'Hara homered in the third.
Zach Neumeister cut the Pride deficit in half with a two-rbi double to right-center field in the fifth. Up to that point, Hall had held Greensboro scoreless. He would go six innings allowing four hits and two runs with seven strikeouts and two walks while recording the win.
Tufts added on to its lead in the sixth inning when sophomore DH Dan Kelly homered to right.
Greensboro pulled within 5-4 following a two-run seventh inning. Neumeister doubled home Bram Johnson for the first run of the inning, while Andrew Ray accounted for one rbi.
However, the Jumbos tacked on three runs in the eighth and ninth innings to put Greensboro in a four-run hole (8-4). Senior SS Matt Moser picked up his ninth rbi of the day (he had 8 at Averett) with a single in the eighth. O'Hara had his second rbi of the game with a fielder's choice later in the inning. Christian Zazzali added an rbi single in the ninth.
Greensboro responded with two runs in the ninth to pull within 8-6. They had the tying runs on base when Tufts reliever Ian Kinney got a strike out to end the game. The save was the second of the season for Kinney.
Moser was the only Jumbo with two hits in the game. Kelly scored twice.
Neumeister finished with a team-high four hits and three rbis, while Edward Mililan, Andrew Ray, and Brian Robbett each had one hit. Zach Branon took the loss on the mound for Greensboro.
Tufts is at Methodist on Wednesday. The Pride will return to action at 4 pm Wednesday when they host the Knights of Saint Andrews
