NEWINGTON, Conn. – Senior co-captain Owen Elliott and junior co-captain Taylor Nordan of the Tufts Golf team finished tied for third place with a total score of 146 in the two-day Detrick Invitational hosted by Trinity College Saturday and Sunday.
With a six-shot improvement from day one, Tufts placed fifth as a team for the tournament. The Jumbos earned a total score for day one with 313 and a final-round score of 307 which brought the team to a total score of 620.
Nordan recorded a final round of three-over 75 that earned a two-over (146) between both rounds. Elliott tallied up an even 70 on Sunday to improved two shots from last round. Junior co-captain Aaron Corn slated a four-over 76 on Sunday which featured a 10-shot difference from round two to tie for 31st place. Freshman Brandon Karr struck an 84 to grab 40th position which followed a two-round score of 166. With an 87 on the final round, freshman Sanjay Mukherjee took 55th place overall. To round out the Jumbos, sophomore Brian Creonte put together an 88, five shots improvement than day one, to place 60th in the field
Host Trinity College took the win with a first-round 295 total and a day-two result of 293 which ended up in a 588, 12-over. Joseph Ladd and Will Rosenfield from Trinity led the team with tied for first place finishes of 144 at the end of round two. Ladd submitted two rounds of even 72 play. Rosenfield went in red digits today to convert a two-under 70 to finish out the tournament.
"Coach Pendergrast and I both feel good about the opening to the season and see this team improving each weekend to make for one of Tufts Golf's most successful season in years," said associate head coach Brian Golden
The Jumbos travel to Middlebury next weekend for the Duke Nelson Invitational at Ralph Myhre Golf Course.
