MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Tufts Men's Golf claimed sixth place in Day 1 of the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday afternoon with junior co-captain Taylor Nordan shooting a two-over 73, tied for fourth individually.
The Jumbos had help from senior co-captain Owen Elliott who recorded an five-over 75 to finish in 15th place.
Tufts posted a total first-round score of 308 to get them set for the final round. Last weekend, the Jumbos finished with 313 at the Detrick Invitational, giving them a five-shot improvement today.
It was a windy day in Middlebury, but the team held its own with a solid first round. Aaron Corn battled the elements and finished with 83, tied for 91st and hoping to rebound like he did last weekend. Brandon Karr improves each round and shot 78 tying for 39th. Ethan Sorkin opened his Tufts career with a respectable 82 which earned him 78th place.
Skidmore leads the 22-team field with a red-hot 296 after 18 holes, followed by Middlebury (297), Amherst (302), Rochester (306). Skidmore's Mackenzie Nelson went in red numbers with a one-under 70 to get the individual medal for the day.
Tee times for day two of the Middlebury Invitational begins at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
