MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The No. 19 Tufts women's squash team blanked No. 30 Haverford, 9-0, in their second match of the day on Friday. The Jumbos picked up a win against No. 24Wesleyan earlier in the day.
With the win the Jumbos move to a perfect 9-0 on the season. The loss puts Haverford at 1-4 this season.
The Jumbos won in all nine positions against the Black Squirrels but the most competitive one was at the No. 1 position as sophomore Hannah Burns earned a hard fought five game win over Isabelle Gotuaco, 12-10, 8-11, 14-12, 8-11, 11-3. The match in the No. 2 position was also close as freshman Claire Davidson used four games to top Kaitlin Reese, 11-9, 11-3, 7-11, 11-5. In the third position, classmate Catherine Shanahan needed just three games to pick up the win over Isabel Agnew, 11-4, 11-5, 11-5.
Junior Lauren Banner played in the fourth position, and topped Olivia Franco in three games, 11-2, 11-8, 11-3. In the fifth position sophomore Sahana Karthik allowed her Black Squirrel opponent to score just nine points across three games, earning the 11-2, 11-5, 11-2 win. Freshman Sahar Tirmizi was able to better that, allowing Emilia Cobbs to score just six points across three games in the seventh position with her 11-1, 11-4, 11-1 win.
In the seventh position sophomore Chista Irani picked up a three game win over Anna Kullnigg, 11-2, 11-4, 11-6. Freshman Kate Deveaux was able to top Sophie Jackson in the eighth position with a 11-6, 11-6, 11-6 win. Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was sophomore Isabella Libassi who earned a 11-2, 11-0, 11-3 win over Steph Lukez.
The Jumbos return to action on Friday with a 6 pm match against Dickinson at Harvard. The Black Squirrels play again on Saturday when they travel to Northeastern for a 12 pm start.
