CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Behind the stellar play of junior Lauren Banner in the fourth position, the No. 18 Tufts women's squash team picked up a hard fought, 5-4, win over No. 21 Dickinson on Friday night at Harvard. Banner picked up a five game win over Jamie-Leigh Edghill after losing the first game.
"Tonight was definitely our toughest match of the season," head coach Joe McManus said. "Dickinson is a very talented team and throughout the ladder we are evenly matched."
With the win the Jumbos move to a perfect 10-0 this season. Dickinson falls to 4-8 on the season with the setback.
Banner's win in the fourth position sealed the win for the Jumbos. Sophomore Sahana Karthik picked up a convincing three game win over Alanis Perez in the fifth position, 11-6, 11-4, 11-6. In the seventh position sophomore Olivia Ladd-Luthringhauser fell in the first game but came back to beat Sarah Murphy, 6-11, 11-3, 11-1, 11-7. Sophomore Sinclair Meggitt was able to beat Patricia Francis-Hall in four games 11-7, 9-11, 11-4, 11-8. Classmate Chista Irani won easily in the ninth position, with a three game 11-5, 11-4, 11-3 win.
Sophomore Hannah Burns won the first game in the first position, but ended up falling to Hedvika Suchankova, 8-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-1. Freshman Claire Davidson battled Domenica Romo in the second position, but fell in a five game battle, 13-11, 6-11, 6-11, 11-5, 11-5. Classmate Catherine Shanahan also battled to five games in the third position with Nicole DeLuca but lost that battle, 11-7, 10-12, 11-13, 11-5, 11-4. Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was Sahar Tirmizi who fell in four games, with three of those going to extra points, in the sixth position, 14-12, 11-5, 10-12, 12-10.
The Jumbos will be back in action on Sunday when they host Georgetown and Boston University at the Belmont Hill School at 11 am and 2 pm, respectively.
