AMHERST - Freshman Alex Honigford shot a one-over par 73 on Sunday to lead the Tufts University golf team at the 2017 Blazers Fall Invite. The tournament is being hosted by Elms College on the par-72 Hickory Ridge Golf Club and continues on Monday.
Tufts' second group is playing in the tournament and recorded a best-four team score of 321 strokes on Sunday. They are six strokes behind 10th-place Nichols College (315) and seven ahead of 12th-place Dean College (328).
Honigford is tied for fifth individually with his 73. Sophomore Ethan Sorkin scored second for Tufts with an 80, while senior Nik Nugnes at 82 and sophomore Michael Kenler at 86 also scored for the Jumbos. Sophomore Sanjay Mukherjee also played for Tufts and shot 88.
Babson College leads the tournament after one day with a 294 team score. Western New England is three strokes behind with a 297 team score. Babson's Lane Bohman is the individual leader with a one-under 71 on Sunday.
