Box Score MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University women's basketball team won their second game of the season, 81-41, over Regis College today at home to wrap up the Tufts Tip-Off Tournament.
Jac Knapp led the way for the second game in a row for the Jumbos (2-0). She totaled 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while going 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. She also led the team with five assists and was tied for the team lead with five steals. Knapp was named Tufts Tip-Off Tournament MVP after averaging 16.5 points, 3.5 steals and 3.0 assists in two games.
Lauren Dillon had 11 points and went a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point territory. She was selected to the All-Tournament with averages of 11.5 points and 4.5 steals.
Gina Doyle had nine points, while Emily Briggs and Melissa Baptista had eight. In total, ten different players scored for the home team.
Brittany Stone from Regis (0-2) had a game-high in both points and rebounds, with 20 points and 10 boards. Maura Russell was next for the visitors with eight points.
Tufts opened the game with an explosive first quarter. They led 28-9 after the frame. The Jumbos hit four 3-pointers in the opening quarter and muscled their way to 16 points in the paint. The teams went into halftime with Tufts up, 49-17.
The Jumbos opened the second half on a 12-2 run off of points from Baptista and Knapp. In the fourth quarter, Tufts was outscored 13-11, but the game was already in hand. Gina Doyle hit two of her three 3-pointers in the final frame and Dillon added another. Stone had six of Regis' 13 points in the quarter.
Up next for the Jumbos they travel to Emerson College this Tuesday for a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m. Regis will play at Westfield State on the same day.
