MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University men's swimming and diving team picked up a 175-100 team win over Middlebury today. The Jumbos recorded 11 first-place finishes on the day.
Kingsley Bowen, Matthew Manfre, and Roger Gu led the way for Tufts, picking up three wins each. The victory was the Jumbos' second in as many days, including yesterday's against Coast Guard in the season-opener at Hamilton Pool.
Bowen helped claim first in the 200 medley relay (1:34.89) with Manfre, Zacahary Wallace, and Gu, and added solo wins in the 50 backstroke with a time of 23.69, and the 50 butterfly with a 23.16.
Manfre was part of the 200 medley relay win, then individually took the 50 breastroke, with a 27.41, and the 100 breastroke by a time of 1:01.33.
Gu got three wins in the 50 freestyle (20.72), 100 freestyle (46.64), and the 200 medley relay with the aforementioned teammates.
Wallace was next with two wins. One coming in the 200 medley relay and the other in the 200 freestyle with a 1:45.70 time.
Brandon Jinn, Lomax Turner, and Tyler Tatro all brought home a win as well. Jinn's was in the 1000 freestyle (10:12.06), Turner won the 100 butterfly (52.49), and Tatro claimed the 500 freestyle crown (4.53 flat).
In the final four events of the day, the Jumbos competed as exhibitions since they already had the team win in hand.
James McElduff had the best time in the 200 IM with a 1:58.48. A team of Wallace, Turner, Bowen and Gu combined for the best time of 3:11.37 in the 400 freestyle relay.
The host Panthers' long victory outside of the exhibition races came from Brendan Leech in the 100 backstroke (55.05).
Next up for the Jumbos will be the MIT Invitational, starting on Dec. 1 and lasting the entire weekend. Middlebury (0-2) next hosts Amherst on December 2.
