BRUNSWICK, Maine – Freshman Grace Goetcheus of the Tufts University women's swimming & diving team broke a pair of program records on the individual side during first-day action at the NESCAC Championships on Friday, as she tallied program-best times of 2:06.75 in the final of the 200-yard individual medley and 57.43 in the 100-yard backstroke during the final of the 400-yard medley relay at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.

The Jumbos currently sit in eighth place out of 11 teams in the three-day tournament, with Williams College sitting atop the standings with 625.5 points. The Jumbos currently have 262.5 points, which trails seventh-place Wesleyan by 31.5 points and clears ninth-place Hamilton by 112.5 points.
Goetcheus trimmed 3.62 seconds off her performance in the preliminaries of the 200 IM, as she posted the seventh-best time of any competitor in the final of the event. She was ranked No. 17 because of the grouping system, which compared her to other swimmers competing in the pre-consolation final of the event.
The Jumbos' shattered a program record as a team, with the relay unit of Goetcheus, senior captain Amanda Gottschalk, sophomore Colleen Doolan and senior captain Sophia Lin posting a time of 3:53.79 in the final of the 400-yard medley relay, en route to placing eighth overall and earning 44 team points.
Lin, junior Jess Lee, Goetcheus and Doolan worked together and collected an eighth-place finish in the final of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.14), adding 44 points to the scoreboard. The relay unit cleared ninth place by 2.23 seconds and trailed the seventh-place team by 1.28 seconds.
Gottschalk finished seventh overall and earned 23 team points in the championship final of the 200 IM (2:07.52), while she also collected a seventh-place nod in the preliminaries of the event with a time of 2:07.31.
Senior diver Kylie Reiman competed admirably in the 1-meter diving event, finishing seventh overall (394.15) in the championship final of the event and earning 23 team points. She also finished seventh overall in the preliminaries of the event with a mark of 386.25.

Freshman Katherine Brown finished ninth overall in the final of the 50-yard breaststroke (30.68), while senior captain Sarah Elghor (31.01) and junior Meghan Casey (31.12) claimed the 14th and 15th slots, respectively, in the final of the event.
Jess Lee earned 13th-place honors in the final of the 50-yard butterfly (26.31) and Lin garnered 14th-place recognition in the final of the 50-yard freestyle (24.52), as the two individuals competed in the consolation final of their respective events and combined for 27 team points.
Sophomore Madeline Lee (26.86) and Lin (26.92) competed in the pre-consolation final of the 50 butterfly and combined for a handful of points. Sophomore Sydney Nasson clocked a time of 5:12.97 in the pre-consolation final of the 500-yard freestyle, adding four points to the Jumbos' total, while freshman Claire Kerns (28.14, six points) and junior Kelsey Gallagher (28.19, four points) posted strong performances in the pre-consolation final of the 50-yard backstroke.
Junior Anna Kimura collected a handful of points, by compiling a time of 2:10.83 in the pre-consolation final of the 200 IM. Doolan chipped in with 3.5 points, by posting a time of 24.87 during the pre-consolation final of the 50 freestyle.
The Jumbos' received a great deal of strong contributions in preliminary-round action, including standout performances by sophomore Alexandra Good (27.10, 50 butterfly), freshman Rica Generoso (27.16, 50, butterfly; 2:15.09, 200 IM), sophomore Tessa Garces (27.50, 50 butterfly), freshman Hannah Truslow (5:17.25, 500 freestyle), sophomore Ailish Dougherty (5:18.00, 500 freestyle), freshman Olivia Leoni (5:19.51, 500 freestyle), sophomore Christiana Hug (5:20.81, 500 freestyle), sophomore Caroline McCormick (28.72, 50 backstroke), junior Alli Dorneo (28.91, 50 backstroke) and freshman Brooke Bernstein (25.23, 50 freestyle).
The Jumbos will compete in second-day action at the NESCAC Championships on Saturday at Bowdoin in Brunswick, Maine, with swimming trials slated to start at 10 a.m., diving preliminaries at 2 p.m. and the finals at 5:50 p.m.
