BRUNSWICK, Maine – Senior captain Amanda Gottschalk of the Tufts University women's swimming & diving team finished fifth overall with a program-best time of 4:28.66 in the championship final of the 400-yard individual medley at the NESCAC Championships on Saturday, as the Jumbos' sit in eighth place heading into final-day action on Sunday at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.

Williams College maintained its spot atop the standings with 1,288 points, while Amherst currently sits in second place out of 11 teams with 1,007.5 points. The Jumbos have compiled 503.5 points, which only trails seventh-place Wesleyan by 29.5 points and clears ninth-place Hamilton by 209.5 points.
Gottschalk's time in the final of the 400 IM was a 3.13-second improvement over her performance in the preliminaries of the event (4:31.79). The Lake Forest, Illinois, native earned 25 team points with her impressive performance in the championship final, as she trailed fourth place by only 0.44 seconds.
Freshman Grace Goetcheus continues to perform well beyond her years, as she posted the second-best time of any competitor in the consolation final of the 100-yard backstroke (57.76) and earned 17 points. The Kensington, Maryland, native was involved in the shattering of three program records during first-day action on Friday, as she also recorded a 10th-place nod in the preliminaries of the 100 backstroke (58.42) on Saturday.
Sophomore Colleen Doolan shined when the lights were the brightest, as she earned 11th-place honors in the final of the 100-yard butterfly (57.74, 16 points), trimming 0.34 seconds off her preliminary-round performance. Freshman Katherine Brown also garnered 11th-place recognition in the final of the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.44, 16 points), shaving 0.78 seconds off her preliminary-round time.
The Jumbos' relay teams continue to make a name for themselves on the big stage, as freshman Hannah Truslow, Goetcheus, Doolan and sophomore Alexandra Good placed seventh overall in the final of the 800-yard freestyle relay, clocking a time of 7:43.17 and adding 46 points to the Jumbos' total.
Goetcheus, Gottschalk, junior Jess Lee and senior captain Sophia Lin hit the water together for the final of the 200-yard medley relay, recording a time of 1:45.87, en route to finishing seventh overall and totaling 46 points.
In the final of the 100 breaststroke, junior Anna Kimura placed 15th overall (1:06.68, 12 points), while junior Meghan Casey (1:08.62, three points) and senior captain Sarah Elghor (1:08.69, two points) performed well in the pre-consolation final of the event.
Sophomore Sydney Nasson earned 16th-place recognition during the final of the 400 IM, clocking a time of 4:40.57 and garnering 11 points, while sophomore Tessa Garces posted a time of 4:46.27 and earned a trio of points during the pre-consolation final of the event.
The Jumbos' received a trio of strong performances in the final of the 1,000-yard freestyle, featuring sophomore Ailish Dougherty (10:47.38, five points), Truslow (10:51.37) and sophomore Christiana Hug (11:04.32).
Sophomore Madeline Lee recorded a time of 59.47 in the pre-consolation final of the 100 butterfly, collecting a pair of points, while junior Kelsey Gallagher (1:00.54, five points), sophomore Caroline McCormick (1:00.94, three points), freshman Claire Kerns (1:01.05, two points) and junior Alli Dorneo (1:01.56, one point) competed in the pre-consolation final of the 100 backstroke.
The Jumbos were the recipients of some impressive performances in preliminary-round action, including efforts by Good (1:00.19 in the 100 butterfly), Jess Lee (1:00.57 in the 100 butterfly), freshman Rica Generoso (1:01.39 in the 100 butterfly), freshman Brooke Bernstein (2:01.24 in the 200-yard freestyle) and freshman Olivia Leoni (2:03.24 in the 200 freestyle).
The Jumbos will conclude the three-day conference championship on Sunday at Bowdoin in Brunswick, Maine, with swimming trials starting at 10 a.m., diving preliminaries at 2 p.m. and the finals at 5:30 p.m.
