Rohrer and Idelson Place Third and Ninth, Respectively, in 3-Meter at Regional Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior captain Matt Rohrer of the No. 14 Tufts University men's swimming & diving team grabbed third-place honors out of 20 divers in Region 3 (Northeast/North) during the 3-meter competition at the NCAA Division III Diving Regional Championship on Friday at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Aaron Idelson posted his third top-10 finish at the regional championship.

Rohrer recorded a score of 535.05 during 11 dives, as the strong performance guaranteed him the opportunity to compete in his fourth NCAA Division III Championship at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas, on March 15-18. The four-time All-NESCAC Team selection was the top-finisher among all competitors from the NESCAC Conference during first-day action at the two-day event.

Junior Aaron Idelson, who is competing in his second consecutive regional championship, earned ninth-place recognition off the 3-meter board with a score of 438.70.

Connor Brisson of New York University earned first-place accolades with a mark of 598.60, while Sam Hoyt (541.90) of Union College claimed runner-up honors.

Rohrer, who was named Diver of the Year and Four Year High Point Diver at the conclusion of the NESCAC Championships on Feb. 19, has reeled off several noteworthy performances on the regional stage.

The Katonah, New York, native placed first in the 3-meter diving event in 2015 (585.20) and 2016 (499.00), while finishing second and third overall, respectively, in the 1-meter event during the 2016 (479.36) and 2015 seasons (509.35) at the regional event.

The senior standout has compiled an outstanding senior campaign, being named NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week on Jan. 16 and earning first-place acknowledgement during the 1- (515.60) and 3-meter events (542.90) at the 2017 NESCAC Championships on Feb. 17-19 in Middletown, Connecticut.

Additionally, he was the individual champion off the 3-meter board during the conference championship in 2014 (533.70) and 2016 (503.10). At the 2015 NESCAC Championships, he earned the top-spot on the score sheet during the 1-meter competition (499.95).

Idelson needs to finish in the top-seven overall in Region 3 during the two-day competition to earn a spot in his first-ever NCAA Championship, as the two Jumbos will compete in the 1-meter competition on Saturday to close out the two-day event. Idelson performed admirably off the 1-meter board at the 2016 NCAA Regional Championship, finishing eighth overall (418.45), while earning 10th-place honors in the 3-meter event (377.35).

The Cooperstown, New York, native has suited up for three NESCAC Championships during his collegiate career, finishing fifth overall in the 3-meter event (403.85) and seventh in the 1-meter competition (363.40) at the 2017 conference championship. He competed in the 1- and 3-meter events during the 2016 conference championships, finishing sixth and ninth overall, respectively, with marks of 390.00 and 341.20.

The 1-meter competition is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. on Saturday at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
