Rohrer Grabs a Pair of Top-Three Finishes at the 2017 NCAA Diving Regional Championship at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior captain Matt Rohrer of the No. 14 Tufts University men's swimming & diving team earned runner-up honors out of 21 divers within Region 3 (Northeast/North) during the 1-meter competition on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Diving Regional Championship at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Aaron Idelson grabbed ninth-place honors in the 3-meter event on Friday.

Rohrer, a four-time All-NESCAC Team selection, posted a score of 528.95 on Saturday, while he earned third-place recognition during the 3-meter event (535.05) on Friday. The Katonah, New York, native will represent the Jumbos for the fourth time in his career at the NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held on March 15-18 at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.

Rohrer was one of seven individuals from Region 3 to qualify for the national championship. Mitchell Ryan of Bowdoin was the only other NESCAC diver to clinch a spot at the NCAA Championships, while Connor Brisson of New York University earned first-place accolades in both events at the regional championship. He posted a score of 564.50 in the 1-meter and finished with a point total of 598.60 in the 3-meter.

Rohrer has competed at the regional championship in all four years of his collegiate career, and he has finished in the top-three overall during seven of eight events during that span. He tallied first-place finishes off the 3-meter board on the regional stage in 2015 (585.20) and 2016 (499.00).

The senior standout's final season has been off the charts, as he finished first overall in the 1- (515.60) and 3-meter events (542.90) at the NESCAC Championships on Feb. 17-19 in Middletown, Connecticut. At the conclusion of the three-day tournament, he was named Diver of the Year and Four Year High Point Diver, while he also garnered NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week on Jan. 16.

Junior Aaron Idelson concluded his strong junior campaign, with a ninth-place finish during the 3-meter (438.70) and a 17th-place performance during the 1-meter (378.80) in his second consecutive season competing at the regional event. The Cooperstown, New York, native also competed in his third NESCAC Championship this season, collecting fifth-place honors in the 3-meter event (403.85) and seventh-place accolades off the 1-meter board (363.40).

"Aaron dove very well on both boards" diving coach Brad Snodgrass said. "He was in contention much of the meet."

Rohrer and Idelson were the two Jumbos that represented the swimming & diving program on the men's side, while Kylie Reiman put an exclamation point on her collegiate career at the event on the women's side.

"Matt, Aaron and Kylie have been leaders of our diving program for the past few years and this weekend they continued to represent our team well," head coach Adam Hoyt said. "We are proud of their performances against the best divers in the region."
