CRANSTON, R.I. – Senior captain Owen Elliott led the Tufts University men's golf team with a 76 at the Wildcat Spring Invitational on Saturday in Cranston, Rhode Island, as the Jumbos placed two golfers in the top-12 overall and currently sit in fourth place out of 17 teams heading into final-day action on Sunday.
Western New England sits in first place with a 309 going into final-round action, which is only six strokes ahead of the Jumbos (315). Babson (310) is currently in the runner-up position and Rhode Island College (312) is in the third slot. Rounding out the top-five is Endicott with a first-round team score of 320.
Senior Nick Shemkovitz (Western New England) and senior Michael Byron (UMass Dartmouth) are atop the leaderboard on the individual side, as each fired a 75 in the first round.
Elliott is in a tie for third overall with his 76, as he was the Jumbos' top-performer in first-day action. He has now fired 70s in 13 of 14 rounds during the 2016-17 season, as he is averaging 74.8 strokes per round.
Junior captain Taylor Nordan was the squad's second-place performer, carding a 78, while sitting in a tie for 12th overall. The San Diego native has shot 70s in 11 of 13 rounds this season, including all three spring rounds that he has suited up for.
Freshman Brandon Karr carded an 80 and sits in a tie for 23rd within the field, while sophomore Justin Feldman recorded an 81, putting him in a tie for 29th. Rounding out the scoring for the Jumbos was junior captain Aaron Corn, as the Brookline, Massachusetts, native tallied an 87.
The Jumbos will compete in their final day of competition during the spring season on Sunday at the Wildcat Spring Invitational.
