CRANSTON, R.I. – Senior captain Owen Elliott earned medalist honors for the third time during the 2016-17 season with a 76-74-150 ledger for the Tufts University men's golf team on Saturday and Sunday at the Wildcat Spring Invitational, as the Jumbos finished in third place out of 17 teams at Cranston Country Club.

During second-day action, all five Jumbos shot in the 70s, as the team fired a two-day total of 622 (315-307) and climbed one spot in the rankings on Sunday. Four out of five Jumbos improved upon their first-round efforts, as the single-round team score of 307 was the second lowest by any team during the entire tournament. The squad saw three individuals finish in the top-20 overall.
Western New England finished the event in first place with a 612 (309-303). Babson (310-309-619) finished second overall, while Rhode Island College (312-315-627) and Johnson & Wales (321-315-636) checked in at fourth and fifth, respectively.
Elliott's second-round total of 74 was the lowest by any Jumbo during the event, as he led the squad during six out of eight tournaments during his final collegiate season. The three-time All-NESCAC Conference Second Team selection closed out his senior campaign, by firing 70s in 11 consecutive rounds, dating back to the Williams Fall Invitational on Sept. 24-25 in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
Junior captain Taylor Nordan finished in a tie for 13th overall, carding a 78-79-157 ledger. Nordan, who has led the Jumbos in two tournaments during the 2016-17 season, averaged 77.2 strokes per round. He additionally fired 70s in 12 of 14 rounds, adding a great deal of depth behind Elliott.
Freshman Brandon Karr shaved two strokes off his opening-round performance, carding a 78 on Sunday, as he finished in a tie for 20th overall with a two-day total of 158. Sophomore Justin Feldman fired an 81-78-159 ledger, which put him in a tie for 27th within the field.
Junior captain Aaron Corn showed his mental toughness, firing a second-day mark of 77 immediately following a round of 87 on Saturday. The Brookline, Massachusetts, native posted a two-day score of 164, as he finished in a tie for 44th overall.
The Jumbos had an immensely successful 2016-17 season, as the squad leaped into the top-five overall in seven out of eight events, including cracking the top-three a trio of times. The squad took home first-place honors out of 17 at the Hampton Inn Invite on April 7-8 in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
