Men's Golf Opens 2017 Season with a Strong Outing in First-Round Action at the Hampton Inn Invite

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Tufts University men's golf team is tied for first overall out of 17 teams at the conclusion of first-day action during the Hampton Inn Invite on Friday, as senior captain Owen Elliott sits in a tie for first overall heading into the final round on Saturday at Allendale Country Club in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

Justin Feldman sits in a tie for fifth overall going into the second round.

The Jumbos carded a 310 during the opening round, which is tied with Babson atop the standings. The Jumbos placed all five of their competitors in the top-33 overall out of 91 competitors on the individual side. Rhode Island College sits in third with a 316, while UMass Dartmouth (Blue) and Amherst sit in fourth (319) and fifth overall (322), respectively.

Elliott is finishing his phenomenal collegiate career in style, as he fired a 75 during opening-day action, which is tied for the lowest opening-round performance with freshman David Choi from Babson. Elliott has now fired 75 or lower in nine out of 11 rounds during the 2016-17 season, while leading the Jumbos in four of five fall tournaments.

Sophomore Justin Feldman is currently in a tie for fifth overall, as the Longmeadow, Massachusetts, native shot a 77, marking the third time he has fired a score in the 70s during the 2016-17 campaign.

Junior Aaron Corn, who was one of the squad's top-four finishers during four fall events, fired a 79, as he finds himself in a tie for 11th overall in the standings. Junior Taylor Nordan decided to join Corn in the 11th slot, carding a 79, as the San Diego native was one of the Jumbos' top-performers during a pair of fall events.

Rounding out the scores for the Jumbos was freshman Ethan Sorkin, as he carded an 82 and sits in a tie for 33rd overall. The Lake Forest, Illinois, native was one of the Jumbos' top-five finishers on three occasions during the 2016 fall season.

The Jumbos will compete in final-round action of the Hampton Inn Invite on Saturday at 1 p.m. in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
