MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Both senior Taylor Nordan and sophomore Brandon Karr shot even par 71 on Saturday as the Tufts University golf team finished the first day of Middlebury College's Duke Nelson Invitational in fifth place.
The Jumbos' four-best scores on Saturday totaled to 296 strokes. They are five back of fourth-place Western New England (291) and 10 behind current leader Williams College (287). Sunday's second round is scheduled to tee off at 9:00 a.m.
Freshman Alex Honigford scored third for Tufts with a three-over par 74. Senior Aaron Corn finished Saturday with a 80 for the fourth Jumbo score.
Nordan and Karr are tied for fourth individually with their 71's. Babson's Lane Bohman, St. Lawrence's Tom Egbers and Williams College's Beau David all shot one-under par 70 on Saturday.
Freshman Harry Theodore was the fifth Jumbo golfer, scoring an 81 on Saturday.
This is the 34th year of the Duke Nelson tournament. A total of 22 teams are in action this year.
