CARLISLE, Pa. – The No. 19 Tufts women's squash team picked up a hard fought 6-3 win over No. 17 Dickinson on the road on Monday afternoon.
The win helps the Jumbos improve to 7-2 this season. With the loss Dickinson falls to 2-6 this year.
Junior Zarena Jafry won a close four game battle in the third position for the Jumbos. After falling in the first game in extra points, Jafry came back to win the next three to get a point for the Jumbos (11-13, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8). Freshman Rach Windreich also had to battle back, after losing the first two games she won the next three in the fifth position for the Jumbos (7-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-7). In the sixth position sophomore Catherine Shanahan had an easy time with Stuart Lemay, winning in three games 11-4, 11-6, 11-6.
Junior Lauren Banner fell in the first game to Carley Barton in the seventh position. But, she won the next three easily for another Jumbo point (9-11, 11-3, 11-2, 11-4). In the eighth position, junior Sahana Karthik battled Alanis Perez, winning 14-12, 8-11, 11-1, 11-5. Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was junior Chista Irani who won an intense five game come-from-behind battle in the ninth position, 13-15, 5-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-5.
Freshman Julie Yeung won the third game in the first position, but it wasn't enough as Hedvika Suchankova won, 11-5, 11-4, 8-11, 16-14. Sophomore Cliare Davidson fell in three close games in the second position, 12-10, 11-9, 11-9. Junior Hannah Burns took on Nicole DeLuca in the fourth position and won the first and fourth games, but DeLuca won the fifth (8-11, 11-7, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8).
The Jumbos are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to No. 30 Haverford to take on the Black Squirrels at 10:30 am and No. 24 Connecticut College at 2 pm.
