HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 19 women's squash team picked up a commanding 9-0 win over No. 30 Haverford on the road on Tuesday afternoon. Eight of the nine Jumbos won in just three games.
The win helps the women improve to 8-2 on the season. Haverford is now 3-4, as they also fell to Connecticut College later in the day.
Freshman Julie Yeung allowed her Haverford opponent, Isabelle Gotuaco, to score just two points across three games in an 11-1, 11-0, 11-1 win in the first position. In the second position junior Zarena Jafry topped Kaitlin Reese, 11-3, 11-5, 11-4. Junior Hannah Burns played the closest match of the day, as the fell in the first game, but came back to win the next three ot beat Madeleine Hager, 8-11, 11-4, 11-1, 11-5.
Taking the courts in the fourth position was rookie Rachel Windreich, who allowed Sunyoung Chai just one point across three games, winning 11-0, 11-1, 11-0. Sophomore Catherine Shanahan took on Tia Brown in the fifth position, and won 11-2, 11-3, 11-0. In the fourth position, senior Lauren Banner topped Olivia Franco, 11-0, 11-8, 11-5.
Junior Sahana Karthik batted Grace Fioramonti-Gorchow in the seventh position and won, 11-2, 11-1, 11-6. In the eighth position classmate Chista Irani dealt Sophie Jackson an 11-1, 11-2, 11-2 loss. Freshman Chloe Kantor was the ninth Jumbo playing on Tuesday, beating Steph Lukez in three games, 11-2, 11-1, 11-2.
The Jumbos were back in action later that day, as they beat Connecticut College 9-0. They will next take on top-ranked Harvard on Saturday at 12 pm.
