Women's Swimming and Diving Picks Up Dual-Meet Win Over Wheaton

Goetcheus had the most first place finishes on the team with three.

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University women's swimming and diving team won a dual-meet match against Wheaton College today. The Jumbos won by a score of 173-120, in a meet that they completely controlled.

Tufts took first place in 10 events, sweeping the podium in three by taking first, second, and third place. Grace Goetcheus grabbed three first place finishes for the Jumbos, while Anna Kimura and Colleen Doolan both had two apiece.

Goetcheus took first in the 200 medley relay along with a team of Katherine Brown, Doolan, and Jess Lee (1:51.30, 11 points). Jackie Krater, Kimura, Sasha Fong, and Abby Claus came in second in the race (1:51.49, 4 points). Goetcheus also placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:01.02, 9 points) and the 200 backstroke (2:12.12, 9 points). Kelsey Gallagher and Sook-hee Evans took second and third respectively in the 200 backstroke.

Kimura came in first in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.20, 9 points) with Emma Seymour and Morgan Casey taking second and third. She also took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.76, 9 points) with Brown and Casey right behind her in second and third.

Doolan claimed first place in the aforementioned 200 medley relay as well as in the 200 freestyle (1:57.66, 9 points).

Evans placed first in the 1000 freestyle (10:47.66, 9 points), Claus in the 200 butterfly (2:12.70, 9 points), Lee in the 50 freestlye (25.63, 9 points), and Amber Chong in the 1-meter dive (282.97, 9 points).

The overall first place finished was wrapped up for the Jumbos before the end of the event, so a couple races at the end had Jumbos receiving the top marks, while not technically being awarded first place.

For instance, Kimura had the fastest time in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.20 and a team of Fong, Crater, Claus, and Doolan has the fastest time in the 400 freestyle relay with a 3:38.63.

Tufts is in action next in two weeks when they travel to the Middlebury Invitational on Feb. 2 and 3.
