MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University women's swimming and diving team improved their standing in the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament Saturday by moving up to fourth place out of 11 teams in attendance after the second day of competition.

The Jumbos were in sixth place after day one and now with 723.5 points have moved up to fourth. They are six points ahead of fifth-place Bowdoin and 121 points behind third-place Connecticut College. Williams remains in first place with 1,376 points and Amherst is in second with 1,150.
The second round of preliminary races took place this morning with the top eight swimmers moving on to the finals that took place tonight. Swimmers that placed nine through 16 in the preliminaries competed in the consolation finals tonight. Tufts qualified for four finals on the first day of competition and with the five they qualified for tonight, brings their total after two days to nine.
Jackie Crater competed in three of the five finals Jumbo racers took part in. The first was the 200 medley relay with Lily Kurtz, Sasha Fong, and Jess Lee. They came in eighth with a time of 1:47.60 and secured 44 points. Crater qualified individually for the 100 breaststroke final where she came in seventh and grabbed 23 points with a 58.05. Grace Goetcheus and Caroline McCormick swam in the consolation final of the 100 breastroke and came in 11th and 14th with times of 58.02 and 59.58 respectively. The third final was another relay, this time the 800 freestyle relay with Abby Claus, Goetcheus, and Doolan. They came in fourth with a 7:40.91 and took home 52 points.
Doolan and Fong also swam in the consolation final of the 100 butterfly and claimed 11th and 13th with times of 57.43 and 57.67 respectively. Claus and Sydney Nasson both swam in the 400 IM consolation final and claimed 10th and 15th respectively with times of 4:33.52 and 4:39.84.
Kurtz swam in the final of the 100 breastroke with Katherine Brown and Anna Kimura both qualifying for the consolation final. Kurtz tied for seventh in the race with a time of 1:05.55 for 22.5 points. Brown and Kimura came in first and second in the consolation final for ninth and 10th place overall with times of 1:05.65 and 1:05.76.
Sook-Hee Evans swam in the 1000 freestyle and finished in 10th with a 10:35.95 and grabbed 17 points.
The competition will wrap up tomorrow with the final round of preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. and the last set of finals beginning at 5:30 p.m.
