Men's Swimming and Diving Pick Up 16 First Place Finishes Over Two-Day Middlebury Invitational

Batt claimed four first place finishes on the day.

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University men's swimming and diving team competed in the second day of the two-day Middlebury Invitational Saturday.

There was not team scoring in the event so there was not one winning school, but combined with yesterday, the Jumbos did pull off 16 individual, or relay, first place finishes. On the second day of competition, they collected 11 after nabbing five on the first day. Besides Tufts, Williams and Middlebury were also in attendance.

Jj Batt collected four first place finishes today, two individual and as a part of two relays. The individual wins came in the 100 butterfly (49.98), in which Kingsley Bowen and Chriss Flynn also took second and third, and in the 100 freestyle (46.48), where second and third were claimed but Tim Gronet and Noah Zhang. The relay wins came in the 200 medley relay (1:34.85) along with Gronet, Matthew Manfre, and Jimmy Parker and in the 800 freestyle relay (6:57.55) with Neil Spazzarini, Dawson Stout, and Ross Wood.

A team of Wood, Albert Tseng, Zhang, Tim Gronet came in first place in the 400 freestyle relay (3:10.23). Constantino Camerano, Roger Gu, Lomax Turner, and Tyler Tatro took second place.

Dawson and Stout claimed two first place finishes each. Along with their aforementioned relay victories, Gronet also won the 100 backstroke (52.53), with Jacob Siegelbaum and Christopher Simotas taking second and third. Stout won the 200 butterfly (1:53.57) as Trevor Serman took second place.

Connor Doyle won the 400 IM (4:05.65) with Stout and Craig Drennan claiming second and third. Gu took home first place in the 200 freestyle (1:42.00) as Wood and Adon Shapiro finished in second and third.

In the 200 backstroke, Kingsley Bowen claimed the top spot (1:50.15) as Connor Doyle and Siegelbaum took second and third. Finally, Alexander Burnam claimed first place in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.73).

The Jumbos now have a couple weeks to prepare for the NESCAC Championships that begin on Feb. 23.
