Golf 5th out of 18 After 1st Day at UMass-Dartmouth's Hampton Inn Invitational

Brandon Karr's 73 tied for third individually after one day

NORTH DARTMOUTH – The Tufts University golf team sits fifth out of 18 after the first round of play at the Hampton Inn Collegiate Invite hosted by UMass Dartmouth at Allendale Country Club on Friday.

Tufts' top four scores gave them a 309 total, 10 back of day-one leader Trinity College's 299. Babson (302) is second, Salem State (306) is third and Husson (307) is fourth. The Jumbos have a one-stroke advantage over Middlebury and Rhode Island College, both tied for sixth at 310 strokes.

This was the spring season opener for the Jumbos and they had three scorers shoot in the 70's. Sophomore Brandon Karr's one-over par 73 led Tufts on Friday, while senior Aaron Corn shot 77 (+5) and junior Justin Feldman came in at 78 (+6). Karr is tied for third individually, Corn is tied for 21st and Feldman is tied for 24th out of 97 total golfers.

Also scoring for the Jumbos on Friday was junior Brian Creonte with a +9 81. Tufts' fifth player was freshman Alex Honigford who shot 86.

Rhode Island College's Austin Cilley is the individual leader after going three-under par with a first-round 69. He has a three stroke lead on Trinity's Will Rosenfield (even-par 72).

Round two action starts on Saturday at 1 p.m.
