CRANSTON, R.I. – Sophomore Brandon Karr shot 78 to lead the Tufts University golf team on the first day of the Wildcat Spring Invitational hosted by Johnson & Wales University on Saturday. The Jumbos are tied for seventh out of 19 in the team standings.
Tufts' total of 326 strokes is tied with Westfield State. The two teams are one stroke back of sixth-place hosts Johnson & Wales (325). They have a two-stroke advantage on UMass-Dartmouth and Endicott. Western New England University leads after one day with a 306 score.
Karr's 78 led the four Jumbo scorers. Junior Justin Feldman carded an 81, freshman Alex Honigford also came in at 81 and freshman Harry Theodore shot 86.
The 78 scored by Karr is tied for 12th individually after 18 holes. Feldman and Honigford are tied for 32nd with their 81s.
Western New England's John Abbott leads the tournament individually with Saturday's 73.
The teams return to action for the second day on Sunday at 10 a.m.
